Notes

Written for fic_promptly for 'kissing beneath the stars'. Another fic written in July.

Angel tossed a piece of star-shaped plastic into the air, catching it again with ease as his eyes followed Lucifer’s movements. Lucifer had flown to the ceiling, another bag just like the one in one of Angel’s hands in one of his own, pinning the pieces to it with tack-it. He was putting them up carefully, clearly recreating the constellations and their positions in the sky from memory.

Finally, he sank back down to the floor, staring up at the plastic stars covering the ceiling, at his carefully placed constellations and those that Angel had put up where he thought they’d look nice. He didn’t know most of the constellations, nor did he know what they looked like millennia ago, for that matter.

“How many hours’s it take til they get to glowin’, anyway?”

They were a little after his time, and he hadn’t exactly looked this kind of thing up while staying in Hell.

“None.”

Lucifer walked over to the windows to pull the curtains, and as he snapped his fingers, Angel watched his ceiling get covered in sparkling sand, if only for a moment. When it dissipated, he watched the stars start to glow.

Lucifer dropped down on Angel’s bed with a smile, Angel following suit soon after.

Angel’s eyes drifted between the constellations, trying to remember them. He had a feeling that the ones he did remember looked a bit different to how Lucifer remembered them.

He tipped his head to the side, eyes locking on Lucifer’s dimly lit face, the only light source in the room now the stars and their own eyes, his heart string-lights unplugged for the evening.

“Ya remember all’a these?”

He watched Lucifer’s eyes soften, his smile fond. “Like I created them yesterday.”

A teasing grin spread across Angel’s lips. “Even though it took ya months to remember my name?”

Lucifer’s cheeks flushed.

“The important things are somehow more difficult to remember. And the more recent stuff. The things before my fall though, I remember them pretty well.”

He watched Lucifer fiddle with his fingers. “I know it’s not useful to remember, but I… I just. Think about them a lot.”

“Do ya miss’em?”

Smile saddening, Lucifer turned his eyes to meet Angel’s. “I do.”

Angel reached out, pushing Lucifer’s hair out of his face. They’d been getting ready for bed when Lucifer had pulled the bags of stars out, telling him he’d bought them on a whim earlier in the day. It had taken them a good couple of hours to put them all up, hardly making the pulling of the curtains necessary.

Lucifer raised himself up on his elbows, pulling himself closer.

As Angel looked up at him, the stars glowed on behind him, and if he pretended hard enough he could almost imagine them as real.

It had been so long since he’d last seen the stars. How long had it been since he died again? Sometimes time didn’t feel real. He imagined it felt even less so to someone as ancient as Lucifer.

He cupped Lucifer’s face, thumbs running along the apples of his cheeks. He pulled him down, until his lips just barely brushed Lucifer’s. He could feel Lucifer hold his breath in anticipation, his eyes staring right back at him.

Angel’s grin grew, enjoying the increasing impatience on Lucifer’s face, until finally, Lucifer was the one to close the gap, pressing his lips to Angel’s.

Angel let out a happy noise, swallowed by Lucifer’s lips on his. Wrapping his arms around his shoulders, he pulled Lucifer on top of him, holding him tight. Lucifer’s lips were cool against his, his own tongue warming Lucifer’s as he felt him deepen the kiss.

His eyes slipped open, meeting Lucifer’s with a laugh when Lucifer let out a startled moan as his hands squeezed his ass.

Lucifer’s lips split into a smile, pressing another kiss to his lips before he nuzzled his face into Angel’s neck, messing up his fur even more than his shower already had.

He could feel Lucifer turn his head, looking up into the ceiling at the stars.

“Ya know,” he started, grin widening. “When I was a kid we used radium for that glow-in-the-dark stuff.”

“Isn’t that poisonous?”

“Uhuh.”

Lucifer huffed out a quiet laugh, shaking his head. “Well, I’m glad you have different ways to do it now, then.”

“Mm, yeah, I’ve heard it tasted pretty bland.”

Lucifer smacked him lightly on the arm, still smiling. “Hey, that definitely wasn’t the worst part.”

“Eh, I’m already dead, maybe I’ll give it a try.”

“You’re ridiculous.”

Angel just laughed at that, burying his nose in Lucifer’s hair, still soft from the shower. He smelled like candied apples and flowers.

Turning his eyes back toward the ceiling, he could feel his eyes grow heavy.

The last thing he saw before falling asleep were the hundreds of stars they had so painstakingly put up. He could feel the vibrations of Lucifer’s purring against his chest, the sound making him smile as he drifted off to sleep.
