Back when they first met, she had dismissed Ayame as nothing more than a naive woman who didn’t have a clue how the world really worked. Little more than a cute face with no substance. She had thought she would get herself killed instantly, too soft for the game she had joined. She couldn’t imagine Ayame killing a zombie even if her life depended on it.

In the beginning, she had seemed like a goody-two-shoes who spouted pretty words with no real meaning behind them. Words that had seemed to have no way for her to follow through on, not when she was talking about getting along with those that had seemed like nothing but mindless killers to the rest of them.

But the longer Ayame survived, she came to find that maybe she had some bite in her after all. She was still plenty naive, but she stuck to her ideals, no matter how much harder that path would be and the risks it brought. And when Ayame had turned her gun on Daichi, she hadn’t been able to keep from being a bit impressed, despite her original feelings of disdain.

Without her, they would have continued to play that same game, killing each other until either no one was left, or the plague was finally unleashed.

 

She didn’t really like being wrong, but maybe this time it wasn’t so bad.

Not when Ayame had proven herself to be so much more than what she had originally thought.
