Oguna couldn’t stop himself from hissing as Toby poked him in the arm. 

His skin was red and angry, reminding him of why he seldom took off his clothes. But Toby had an ability to make him do things he usually wouldn’t. Like getting him to take most of his clothes off on a hot summer day. Like getting him to dip his feet in the water as he looked at her swimming in the river.

Toby laughed as he swatted her finger away. “You look like a lobster,” she said, laughter colouring her every word. “Maybe we should catch some so you’ve got someone to match.”

Oguna rolled his eyes at her, leaning away from another attempt at touch. “I’m not that red.”

She laughed again, standing up so she could drop back into the river, her smiling face the last thing he saw before she fell backwards into the water. The waves her body made hit his legs as she resurfaced, shaking the water out of her hair.

 Her eyes sparkled as she looked up at where he sat at the edge of the river, the sun still beating down on them.

 

When evening came, she would drag him along to see if they could find anyone selling any lobsters, laughing like a maniac as she held one up next to his sun-burnt face.
