The sun hung high in the sky, the day unusually hot for fall. Izumo had run into Kumaso and Yamato a few hours ago, Kumaso in the middle of fishing, standing in the middle of the river. Izumo and Yamato both watched as he caught a fish with his bare hands, a triumphant roar accompanying the catch.

They watched him toss it into a bucket that already held plenty of fish.

Izumo’s eyes turned to Yamato, who was watching Kumaso with wide eyes, cheeks dusted pink, not only from the warm rays of the sun.

“Hot, isn’t it?”

She jumped, a small squeak leaving her lips. “W-what?”

“The weather,” Izumo followed up. They both knew he wasn’t talking about the weather.

“O-oh. Yes, very.”

Izumo stood up, kicking off his shoes as he reached out a hand for her to take. “Come on, let’s join him.”

“I, I don’t know how to catch fish like that…”

“Neither do I.” The smile on his face was wide. “Let’s go make fools of ourselves together.”

Finally taking his hand, she let herself get pulled up on her feet.

Together, they joined Kumaso in the water, who was all too happy to both show them the ropes and to laugh at them when they failed.
