Luka paced the room back and forth, groaning. “Man, this place is cold. We’re gonna turn into icicles before we can even find that ranger key.”

“I don’t mind,” Ahim said, lifting her blanket in invitation. “I can help you keep warm, if you’d like.”

Luka sank down next to her, the blanket carefully draped across her and Ahim’s laps. She could feel the press of Ahim’s thigh against her own. She felt Ahim’s fingers trace her palm, her head tipping to the side to rest against her shoulder. “So this is why you don’t mind, huh? That’s bold of you.”

Ahim’s smile was sweet as she glanced up at her. “I can be bolder, if you want.”

Luka raised an eyebrow. “Really? Prove it.”

Ahim lifted her head, looking her in the eyes. Just as Luka was about to open her mouth to speak, maybe crack a joke, she leaned forward, pressing her lips to hers. The kiss was tender, her lips soft. It made Luka’s cheeks grow hot.

 

When Ahim pulled back again, there was a playful glimmer in her eye. “Was that proof enough for you?”

Luka’s fingers intertwined with Ahim’s underneath the blanket. “I don’t know, I might need some more convincing.”

Ahim hid a giggle behind her hand before leaning in close again. “The others might come back soon.”

The corner of Luka’s lips twitched upward. “They might.” She pushed a lock of Ahim’s hair behind her ear, eyes never wavering as they met Ahim’s.

As their lips met, she thought about how warm Ahim’s lips were against hers.

Maybe she wouldn’t mind if the others ran just a bit late, despite the cold.

She had someone to keep her warm in the meantime.
